ABOUT CHEDAR
A collaborative research and advanced training initiative connecting heritage, science, technology and international cooperation.
CHEDAR — Cultural HEritage Digitalization And Resilience is an international research and advanced training project dedicated to the documentation, conservation and sustainable management of cultural heritage through interdisciplinary research, digital technologies and knowledge exchange.
At the heart of the project is the CHEDAR Research and Advanced Training Centre, conceived as a technological and cultural hub where research, innovation, education and knowledge transfer converge. The Centre fosters transdisciplinary collaboration and the development of new approaches to the documentation, conservation, interpretation and management of cultural heritage. This is consistent with the Research Centre page, which presents CHEDAR as a hub combining digital innovation, conservation and cultural experimentation.
The project combines scientific research, technological innovation, advanced training and international cooperation, with particular attention to digital transformation, sustainability, resilience and cultural responsibility.
With a strong focus on the Mediterranean and Arab regions, CHEDAR promotes cooperation and the exchange of knowledge, methods and expertise across different cultural and geographical contexts, addressing heritage exposed to environmental, social and geopolitical challenges. The Research Centre page explicitly identifies the Arab and Mediterranean regions as a particular geographical focus.
PROJECT DIRECTION AND SCIENTIFIC COORDINATION
Prof. Grazia Tucci, DICEA — Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Florence, directs CHEDAR and is also responsible for the project’s scientific coordination.
In these distinct roles, she guides the overall strategic development of CHEDAR and coordinates its scientific activities, ensuring coherence across research, advanced training, technological innovation and international cooperation.
Her work supports collaboration among the project’s partner institutions and promotes an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to the documentation, conservation, management and digital transformation of cultural heritage.
STRATEGIC ADVISOR
Paolo Glisenti
Former Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2020 Dubai, he was responsible for coordinating and developing Italy’s participation in the Universal Exhibition, including the strategic and institutional framework of the Italy Pavilion.
He now supports CHEDAR’s strategic development, international relations and institutional positioning.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE
The CHEDAR Scientific Committee brings together representatives of the project’s partner institutions, contributing to its scientific direction and interdisciplinary development.
