MISSION AND VISION

Beyond Digitization

The CHEDAR project tackles the challenge of safeguarding cultural heritage in crisis contexts by moving beyond simple digitization (analogue-to-digital conversion) towards true digitalization: an integrated strategy to innovate processes, optimize operations and develop new models for managing and enhancing heritage.

CHEDAR’s vision aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and European cultural heritage policies, promoting the use of digital technologies, particularly for the protection of endangered heritage.

The project aims to turn these guidelines into concrete actions by encouraging the adoption of innovative methods and the sharing of best practices at national and international levels.

CHEDAR promotes rigorous digital documentation, which is also suitable for physical reconstruction, while enhancing traditional craftsmanship through collaboration with technologies such as 3D scanning, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality.

The project's mission is to develop a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to conservation, paying particular attention to environmental and human-induced risks. Employed technologies include 3D digitization with integrated sensors, material diagnostics, environmental analysis and new monitoring systems, including the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

All these solutions contribute to creating Heritage Digital Twins: not just digital models, but integrated digital resources within a broader cultural ecosystem. This reflects a strategic, long-term vision that goes beyond isolated or occasional interventions.
